3) Natan Sharansky Fundraiser Update

As noted previously, Natan Sharansky will be our special guest for this year’s summer dessert fundraiser on Tuesday, July 8th.  Participating in this event is a wonderful way to socialize with friends, spend time with a true Jewish hero and support our community’s many different religious, educational and communal activities.  To RSVP for this important event, please click here, print out the form and return it via the regular mail to Shir Hadash’s Post Office Box.  Online donations are also possible, as are tax deductions (upon request) for both Israel and U.S. citizens.

On Thursday night, July 3rd at 8 PM, a charity premiere of the film Circumcise Me: The comedy of Yisrael Campbell will take place at the Smadar Theatre, 4 Lloyd George Street in the German Colony.  Shir Hadash member David Blumenfeld is the filmmaker of this movie.  To reserve your seats (tickets are 35 NIS), call the box office at 02 566 0954.

Also on Thursday night, July 3rd … Morit Lee, daughter of Marty and Chavi Lee, is part of a group raising funds to help 11th graders travel to Poland next year to learn about the Holocaust.  A fundraising concert with Neshama Carlebach will take this evening at the Ma’abda for this very purpose.  To purchase tickets for the concert, or to simply make a donation, contact Morit at  moritcara@yahoo.com.

Our annual summer learning of Pirkei Avot resumes this Shabbat at 6 PM.  We will meet on the main lawn of the San Simon Park (close to the trees in the center of the lawn).  This year, we will begin our exploration with the third chapter.  New participants – and new insights – are always welcome.

We welcome to the community this Shabbat two groups of overseas’ visitors.  First, a delegation from the World Affairs Councils of America will visit us Friday night.  Next, on Shabbat morning, we welcome a teen tour from Cleveland, Ohio.

Special Fundraising Event – Natan Sharansky

Human rights icon, international best-selling author and former Deputy Prime Minister Natan Sharansky will be the featured guest at this year’s annual Dessert Fundraiser, to take place Tuesday night, July 8th at the Pear home, HaPalmach 54.  He will speak about his new book, Defending Identity: Its Indispensable Role in Protecting Democracy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The proceeds from this annual event will go towards covering Shir Hadash’s general operating expenses, such as rent for the coming year, special events and honorariums for the many teachers whom provide wisdom for us as a community throughout the year.

Sponsorship Level donations for this event are 750 NIS per person, or 1,000 NIS per couple, and includes one copy of the book per person.  Sponsors insure the success of the event before we even open the doors open.

General Admission is for donations of 360 NIS per person, or 500 NIS per couple, and includes one copy of the book.

General Admission without receiving a copy of the book is 250 NIS.

Admission for students, soldiers and pensioners is 100 NIS, but does not include a book.

To reserve your place, please send checks to Shir Hadash at the addresses below (or make an online donation) and indicate your level of giving and number of people attending.  If you cannot attend but would like to support Shir Hadash, donations are obviously most appreciated nevertheless and recognition of your contribution will be made.
