4) Volunteers Needed to Help with Set-up
Sunday night at 10 PM a team of volunteers is needed to help prepare the shul for Rosh Hashana. If available and interested in helping out, please contact aposton@aish.com to give us an idea of how many people will be joining this effort.
5) Hosts Needed
As noted last week, a group of 18 year old students will be joining us for second day Rosh Hashana. These students, spending the year in Israel as part of a b’nai akiva program, are from throughout the world, including the Jewish communities of the United States, Sweden, Italy, Denmark and Germany. We are looking for individuals and families willing to host these students for lunch on the second day of Rosh Hashana. We have already received a number of volunteers – thank you to the Passow, Wohlgelernter and Slivko families — but still need more. Please e-mail shirhadash@aol.com to volunteer.
6) Thank you
Thank you to all those who participated in last Motzei Shabbat’s Slichot program. Aside from being a wonderful event with hundreds of attendees, this program also collected thousands of shekels and numerous boxes worth of food for needy families in Jerusalem. Tizku L’mitzvoth.

Aharon Razel begins the program with a musical melava malka at 11 PM, and Yehuda Katz will then lead Slichot at 12 PM. Please bring 1) your own slichot books, and 2) non-perishable food items to donate to needy elderly in Jerusalem (if you can’t bring the food item, a 20 NIS donation is requested to help needy families prepare for the Holidays).
As always, this is sure to be a great event, so don’t miss it.
It will also be one of the last opportunities to reserve your seats for the Yamim Noraim if you have not already done so.
4) Yamim Noraim Update

Congratulations to David and Tova Kramer on the birth of a baby boy this past week. Congralations also to Alan and Leah Lurie, the proud grandparents of the new baby Kramer. The brit, please God, will take place this coming Wednesday.
6) Hosts Needed
Shir Hadash will be hosting for Rosh Hashana a group of 18 year olds participating in the B’nai Akiva year course. If possible, they would like to join our families in their homes for lunch following second day services. If you are able to host any of these students, please e-mail Rabbi Pear at shirhadash@aol.com at your earliest convenience (include how many students you can host).
5) Shofar for the Homebound
If you or anyone you know in the neighborhood is homebound on Rosh Hashana and unable to attend services to hear the shofar, please e-mail shofartrua@yahoo.com. It’s time for our annual membership drive. As in years past, seating for the Yamim Noraim will also be connected to this drive, though of course we welcome membership from all those who wish to support our growing community and expanding programs, even if you do not plan on participating in the Yamim Noraim specifically at Shir Hadash.
Regarding the Yamim Noraim, our ba’al tephilla this year will be Yehuda Katz (of Reva L’Sheva).
Regular Full Membership this year is 500 NIS for a Family Membership (which includes 2 general reserved seats for the Yamim Noraim), and 360 NIS for a Single Membership (which includes 1 general reserved seat).
Due to feedback received over the past year, there will also be a second category of membership — we call it the Gold Level Membership — that allows people to pick specific seats for the Yamim Noraim. The Regular Full Membership does not allow for the selection of specific seats.
Gold Membership is 1,000 NIS for a Family Membership (and includes seats for one’s entire immediate family over the age of 10), and 500 NIS for a Single Membership (and includes one specifically reserved seat).
Student/Soldier/Pensioner Membership is 180 NIS (and includes one general reserved seat).
Additional seats may be purchased by members at the following rates: 180 NIS for an adult guest; 100 NIS for one’s child 10 – 18, or a soldier or student guest.
TO BECOME A MEMBER, FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
A) E-mail shirhadash@aol.com with the word MEMBERSHIP in the subject line. In the body of the text, include your name (and names of your family members), a phone number, address, the type of membership you have selected and the number of seats you would like to reserve (include how many men and how many women seats are needed).
B) Consider making an additional donation to Shir Hadash for a specific need during the upcoming year, such as (but not limited to): Donate a new sidur (or sidurim) at 40 NIS per sidur; contribute to the kiddush fund for those times when there is no kiddush sponsor (250 NIS suggested); sponsor the visit of an inspiring and talented guest ba’al tephilla (400 NIS for Kabalat Shabbat, 800 NIS for an entire Shabbat; sponsor a week of our daf yomi shiur (500 NIS) or an entire month (2,000 NIS). These donations will be recognized in the weekly announcements as a means to encourage additional donations.
C) Calculate and then make your membership payment/donation. Payment may be made either via regular mail or online – and tashlumim are gladly accepted.
To pay via regular mail, send your checks made out to Shir Hadash to: Shir Hadash / Post Office Box 8438 / German Colony / Jerusalem.
To make a secure payment online, please click here for donations in NIS or here for donations in dollars. (All donations in dollars are automatically tax deductible; donations in NIS beyond the cost of membership can also be deductible but should be coordinated with e-mail correspondence at shirhadash@aol.com first).
D) Pat yourself on your back. Shir Hadash exists thanks to your generosity.
